2023 EXHIBITIONS

Zen & Now

Peter Pilven, Koji Hoashi

November/December 2023

Malvern Artists’ Society Gallery, 1297 High Street, Malvern Victoria.

Peter Pilven

I am partially inspired by reflective ruminations of the past and my need for a mute but poignant expression.

The eclectic style of my work is due to a restless curiosity.

Koji Hoashi

I hope people can observe and feel the complexities in my work.

I strive to create elegance, strength, sincerity, generosity, combined in a simple form, adorned with glazes, patterns, and textures.

Making Space

July/August 2023

Malvern Artists’ Society Gallery, 1297 High Street, Malvern Victoria.

‘Let me tell you about my obsession with space. I remember rolling up a sheet of paper and looking through it at the small round space of a much-reduced world, a space which excludes everything beyond. I remember thinking that although small, the space was highly charged and that in spite of its diminished scale, it flared with impressive dimension.

I knew that I wanted to play in the vastness of a small space and so the years that followed saw an intense examination of the specific area defined by the word and its meaning. The investigation has run off on so many tangents, but three dimensions of space are particularly important to my work. I explore space as pictorial illusion on the clay wall, space physically contained within the clay walls (pot space).’
